Miracle snack shop’s plot starts after the protagonist Seolhwa Cha opens up the small eatery he was lent to be able to pay off his debt. A portal suddenly opened in his shop’s attic a month ago and after one customer-less day at the shop, something finally comes out: a woman who calls herself Queen Salt of the fantasy land of Salt Kingdom. After much mishaps with miscommunication and trying out a delicious bowl of Korean shaved ice or bingsu for the first time, the two come to understand each other and Seolhwa gains his first regular customer. What follows is a sweet and funny story on learning different cultures and experiencing feelings for another person. There is a second female character you’ll meet and be able to date, but Queen Salt or Philia is the true star of the story.
More Sweet Delights
The epilogue DLC, Philia after story, focuses more on her but it beautifully ties all of the endings from the main game together and creates a story where there are no bad endings. It’s shorter than the main game but offers new event CGs, full voice-acting, and Philia’s own character song video. Like the main game, you need to manage your store by leveling up your cooking skills, collecting recipes to increase the value of your store, and promoting and making your store famous. The art style is as gorgeous as ever and the soundtrack is still amazing. Of course, as an English-translated Korean VN, there will be some imperfect translations but it won’t affect your gameplay in any way.
An Outstanding Continuation
For a romance VN, Miracle snack shop 기적의 분식집 Philia after story has a solid plot and story, both games not leaving you hanging. It has a restaurant management game mechanic but that’s not a core aspect to the game itself and is mostly to support the plot, so don’t expect heavy management-planning that you’ll have to do to win the endings. It’s a simple enough dating sim that can be recommended to everyone interested—the mature scenes aren’t too heavy and explicit either. Compared to most extra story content sequels and DLCs, Philia after story will surprise you with how much more it will give you after the main game for its very low price. This is a must-play after Miracle snack shop.
